Special AfNWA session at the AfAS conference

AfNWA organised a special session on 17 of March during the AfAS annual meeting titled ‘Current status of AfNWA after one year since its official launching‘. This session briefly summarised the work done in the last year, including AfNWA awards, and what are the plans for 2022. The second part of the session was an open discussion on ‘Strategies for empowering girls and women in Africa through astronomy’. The session was attended by ~ 40 people, both face-to-face and virtually. With the network currently costing about 120 members, this was a great turnout.

Many aspects were discussed and the overall feedback we gather from this session is that there really is a need for the AfAS-AfNWA subcommittee and we are encouraged to continue our work.
